The Grey Door

2025, cast and coldworked glass, H 80 x W 26 x D10 cm

This work takes the form of a door that simultaneously functions as a solid wall. Cast in grey glass, the object presents a largely closed structure whose weight and density restrict physical passage and visual penetration.

The material mass emphasizes containment and resistance. Toward the upper edge, the thickness of the glass gradually diminishes, allowing light to pass through partially. This subtle transition introduces a shift in perception, as opacity gives way to a limited translucency.

Through this configuration, the work examines a condition in which separation, blockage, and the possibility of passage coexist. Within the closed structure, perception moves upward, responding to the gradual emergence of light and space beyond, unfolding through duration and sustained viewing.

이 작품은 문이라는 형태를 취하면서 동시에 견고한 벽으로 기능하는 구조물이다. 잿빛 유리로 캐스팅된 이 오브제는 전체적으로 닫힌 구조를 이루며, 그 질량과 밀도는 물리적 통과와 시각적 투과를 강하게 제한한다.

작품의 상부로 갈수록 유리의 두께는 점진적으로 얇아지며, 빛이 부분적으로 투과되는 영역을 형성한다. 이 미세한 변화는 불투명함에서 제한적인 투명성으로 이행하는 지각의 전환을 만들어낸다.

이 작업은 차단과 분리, 그리고 통과의 가능성이 동시에 존재하는 상태를 다룬다. 닫힌 구조 안에서 지각은 위쪽으로 이동하며, 빛과 공간이 서서히 감지되는 방향으로 변화한다. 이러한 인식의 이동은 시간과 응시를 통해 점진적으로 드러난다.
