The Fissure

This work takes the form of a solid glass block that appears continuous when viewed from the front. The surface reads as sealed and cohesive, emphasizing mass and visual stability.

As the viewer moves to the side, top, or rear, a pronounced fissure becomes visible within the volume. What initially appears as a unified form is revealed to be internally divided, with the gap occupying a substantial portion of the structure.

Through this configuration, the work examines how perception of solidity depends on viewpoint. The fissure is not gradually discovered but abruptly disclosed through positional change, positioning the act of viewing itself as a critical condition for the work’s spatial understanding.

이 작품은 정면에서 볼 때 하나의 응집된 덩어리처럼 인식되는 유리 구조물이다. 표면은 봉인된 형태로 보이며, 물질의 밀도와 시각적 안정감이 강조된다.

그러나 측면, 상부, 혹은 후면으로 시점이 이동하면 내부에 존재하는 큰 틈이 분명하게 드러난다. 처음에는 하나로 보이던 형태는 내부에서 크게 분리된 구조임이 즉각적으로 인식된다.

이 작업은 시점에 따라 형태의 인식이 급격히 전환되는 조건을 다룬다. 균열은 점진적으로 드러나는 요소가 아니라, 위치의 변화에 의해 단번에 노출되는 구조로 작동하며, 관람 행위 자체를 공간 인식의 핵심 요소로 만든다.
